What Happens Next?

You've just returned home from the post office after mailing your application to take the CMA (AAMA) Certification Examination. What happens next?

Well, on your end, nothing for a while.

If you applied for the October 24, 2008 examination, the AAMA Certification Staff will inform you of your application status within 75 days of the application postmark deadline. If you have not received any communications from the AAMA Certification Staff by that time, please contact them by phone or e-mail to check on your enrollment status.

If you applied for the January 2009 examination, you will receive a Scheduling Permit that will enable you to schedule your examination at the test center nearest you, or the AAMA Certification Staff will inform you if your application is incomplete and what is needed in order for you to receive a Scheduling Permit within 75 days of the application postmark deadline.

If you're eligible for the October 24, 2008 exam
You will receive a test center enrollment verification letter which indicates your enrollment status and provides the address of your test center. A Candidate's Guide to the CMA (AAMA) Certification Examination is sent to all exam candidates. It includes the Examination Content Outline and suggestions to help you study and prepare for the exam. The Candidate's Guide is not an exam review book.

If you do not receive A Candidate's Guide within 30 days of the exam date, contact the AAMA Certification Department.

If you're eligible for the January 2009 exams
You will receive a Scheduling Permit with instructions for making an appointment at a Prometric, Inc.® test center. The Candidate Application and Handbook for the January 2009 Examination Period, which you reviewed prior to applying for the exam, includes the Examination Content Outline and suggestions to help you study and prepare for the exam.

If you're not eligible
If you are not eligible to take the exam, the the AAMA will notify you and explain why. Grounds for denial of eligibility are explained in the FAQs on CMA (AAMA) certification.
