The mission of the AAMA is to empower medical assistants by advancing education, certification, advocacy, and scope-of-practice protection.
AAMA Vision
The AAMA vision is to be the leading voice for medical assistants, setting the standard for excellence in education and certification while championing their value and empowering them as an essential role within the health care team.
The Board of Trustees has determined the 2026–2029 Strategic Plan to have three priority goals.
Goal 1 - Education
Position the AAMA as the indispensable driver of career growth and professional value for medical assistants.
Outcomes:
- Medical assistants know the AAMA is the essential driver of career growth. The AAMA expands and diversifies advanced education, specialty training, and credentialing opportunities aligned to workforce needs and emerging clinical skills.
- Employers demonstrate increased recognition and preference for the credentialed medical assistant, reflected in stronger alignment with hiring, advancement, and role expectations.
Goal 2 - Knowledge
The AAMA is the trusted authority and central hub that connects knowledge, community, and professional engagement across the medical assisting profession.
Outcomes:
- The AAMA becomes the primary, go-to source for timely, authoritative information on scope of practice, regulatory changes, and industry trends.
- Membership engagement deepens through expanded opportunities for connection, mentorship, and leadership participation.
- The AAMA strengthens its visibility and presence among medical assistants, employers, and the broader healthcare community.
Goal 3 - Advancement
Strengthen the long-term sustainability and influence of the medical assisting profession by expanding the pipeline, partnerships, and positioning of the field within healthcare.
