Eligibility Requirements for the CMA (AAMA)® Exam
To be eligible for the CMA (AAMA)® Certification Exam, an applicant must meet one of the following requirements:
- Be a student or graduate of a medical assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES);
- Be previously certified as a CMA (AAMA);
- Be a medical assisting educator who has completed a minimum of 1,000 hours in a postsecondary medical assisting program that is part of an institution accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); or
- Meet the requirements of the Alternative Pathway.
